China Grants Visa-Free Entry to Citizens of 75 Countries

Thursday, Aug 7, 2025

China has expanded its visa-free entry policy to include citizens from 75 countries as part of broader efforts to simplify entry procedures and boost international engagement. The announcement came from Wang Zhizhong, head of the National Immigration Administration.

Wang stated that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period from 2021 to 2025, the number of countries eligible for visa-free transit has grown to 55. He also confirmed that entry ports have increased to 60 across 24 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions.

The allowed stay for travelers entering under visa-free transit has been extended to 240 hours. These changes are intended to make it easier for foreign nationals to visit China for business, tourism, and other purposes.

Wang noted that these updated visa policies have improved interaction between Chinese citizens and people from other countries. He added that many foreign visitors have developed a deeper understanding of China through personal travel experiences.

Official records show that China’s border inspection agencies processed 1.556 billion entries and exits during the 14th Five-Year Plan period. These include over 98 million cross-border transport vehicles such as ships, aircraft, automobiles, and trains.

According to Wang, China now ranks among the countries with the most efficient port clearance systems globally.

Wang also spoke about the administration’s work to attract global talent. He said efforts are underway to improve support systems covering entry visas, residence permits, and other services for international professionals.

Wang also spoke about how many high-level experts from overseas have come to China to contribute to major sectors that support its modernization efforts.

An immigration official also added that the number of valid ordinary passports held by Chinese citizens has now exceeded 160 million.
