Indonesia to Allow Visa-Free Entry for Brazil and Turkey

Tuesday, Jul 8, 2025

Indonesia has announced a new visa-free entry policy for visitors holding passports from Brazil and Turkey starting July 3, 2025.

Yuldi Yusman, Acting Director General of Immigration at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, stated that this decision came after a thorough review with relevant institutions and aligns with the principle of reciprocity.

Yusman pointed out that Brazil and Turkey have already given Indonesians visa-free access. He explained that this was the main reason behind offering the same arrangement in return.

Under the new rules, travelers from Brazil and Turkey can stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days. The visit can be for tourism, attending business meetings, or receiving medical treatment.

The stay cannot be extended, and the visa-free status cannot be switched to any other type of residence permit.

Yusman also clarified that the visa-free entry will be applied selectively. Officials aim to verify that visitors are genuinely eligible and can bring positive value to Indonesia.

He added that Indonesia would keep a close watch on foreign visitors and carry out regular checks to ensure the visa exemption policy is properly implemented and in line with current regulations and laws.

With this decision, Brazil and Türkiye now join a short list of countries whose citizens enjoy visa-free access to Indonesia. This list includes Southeast Asian nations as well as Hong Kong, Colombia, Suriname, and Timor-Leste.

The move comes as Indonesia, the world’s fourth-most populous country, seeks to attract more high-spending tourists and strengthen its ties with middle-power countries outside its traditional Western partners.
