Russia and Jordan have signed a mutual visa exemption agreement that allows citizens of both nations to travel without a visa. The agreement was signed during a joint press conference held in Moscow by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi.
The Jordanian Cabinet approved the agreement earlier this week. It was described as a key step toward expanding cooperation and creating new opportunities for shared economic and cultural interests.
The agreement allows visa-free tourist visits for up to 30 days per trip. However, the total number of days allowed under the deal is limited to 90 within one year.
Safadi said Jordan is dedicated to strengthening its friendship with Russia and emphasized that this agreement would support growth in many sectors, like tourism, trade, and cultural engagement between the two nations. Lavrov echoed the sentiment and described the deal as mutually beneficial.
In their meeting, the two foreign ministers also explored broader areas of cooperation. Safadi noted that both countries are preparing for the next meeting of the Jordanian-Russian High Committee for Economic and Trade Cooperation, which is set to take place later this year.
This is not the first visa deal between the two countries. In 2017, Jordan and Russia signed a separate agreement waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic, official, and special passports. That agreement came into force in January 2018.
Until now, Russian tourists visiting Jordan could obtain a visa upon arrival at the airport for a fee of 40 Jordanian dinars, about 56 US dollars. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the new visa policy will help expand tourism and increase business connections with Jordan.
